Windows Phone Apollo may be running on some handsets

Windows Phone Apollo may be on its way as version 8 of Microsoft's mobile OS appears on the 'I'm a WP7' app.

Apollo, also known as Windows Phone 8, is Microsoft's next major upgrade for its mobile platform, which is expected to land later this year.

The latest reports suggest that Apollo is now in testing, with the I'm a WP7 app showing some handsets running version 8.0.9662.0 of the Windows Phone operating system.

Skype and NFC integration

Of course this could well be a spoof result showing up on the app, so take this report which the correct amount of salt.

Although nothing official has been announced it's expect that Apollo will bring full Skype and NFC integration to handsets running the Windows Phone operating system, as well as giving more freedom to key development partners such as Nokia.
