More LG Nexus 4 prototype details emerge

More LG Nexus 4 prototype details emerge

The collaboration between Google and LG can surely no longer be considered a secret.

Yet despite a wealth of information appearing online, LG's very own Nexus Android phone, which appears to be called the LG Nexus 4, still hasn't been officially announced.

Nevertheless, a slew of new details appeared on Friday to fortify what was already known about the new Nexus device.

The latest report come by way of a single source, who claims to have a prototype of the device. To be sure, the final LG Nexus 4 could bear little resemblance to the specs listed here.

What's in a name?

Along with Friday's leak came a batch of new images that support one of the original reports' claims that the LG Nexus 4 closely resembles Samsung's Galaxy Nexus.

It's what's on the inside that counts, though, and the latest report supports previous claims that the LG Nexus 4 would most closely resemble LG's Optimus G in terms of specs.

There have been two disparate theories on the "Nexus 4" name, and the prototype detailed on Friday supports the idea that the "4" comes from the device being the fourth major Nexus on the market (after the Nexus One, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus).

The other theory, that the new smartphone was called the LG Nexus 4 because of a 4-inch screen, seems to have been refuted by the prototype's apparent 4.7-inch, 1280 x 720 display.

LG Nexus 4 specs

Previous reports pegged the LG Nexus 4 with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a new 4.2 version of Android Jelly Bean.

Wireless charging has also been rumored for the new Nexus device, as well as a few negatives - like a non-removable battery and a max 16GB of storage with no microSD slot.

Friday's leak doesn't exactly refute or support those claims, since the prototype device reportedly underperformed in benchmark tests, possibly indicating that the tipster's version of the LG Nexus 4 is far from final.

An LG spokesperson responded to TechRadar's inquiries regarding the possibility of the Nexus 4 simply by remarking that the Korean company doesn't comment on rumors or speculation.

However, a collaboration between Google and LG would surprise absolutely no one, especially considering all the recent leaks.
