It won't be officially revealed the end of January, but it looks like RIM's new Bold-alike smartphone has made another unsanctioned appearance.
The N4BB site has come across some new, clearer photos of the QWERTY-toting N-Series device, offering a vest improvement on the blurry images which surfaced a couple of weeks back.
The leaked snaps give a much better look at the physical keyboard and showcases how the rows of BB10 app icons fit with the screen proportions.
The N-Series (or the X10 as it may eventually be known) will be running the long-delayed BlackBerry 10 operating system when it is finally revealed at a launch event on January 30.
At the event, RIM is scheduled to offer an in-depth look at the completed BB10 OS, which was first announced well over a year ago.
At the event, the company is likely to unveil two handsets; the N-Series device mentioned above and a heavily-leaked all-touchscreen L-Series device.
Will RIM have any surprises in store come January 30? TechRadar will be covering the event as it happens so stay tuned.

With 2012 drawing to a close, there are plenty of retrospective views around. So who are we to differ?
It's been a brilliant year in the technology space, so let's focus on what really got us excited: the stuff that changed the technology landscape, for better or for worse.
These are our key tech highlights from the last year.
It's been another bumper year for phones. Things are as tight as ever at the top, with key launches, patent wars and new tech taking centre stage in a way we rarely get to see. Be it Apple and Samsung's interminable courtroom battles, RIM's persistent system failures or mobile networks crashing, there's been a lot of negativity flying around.
The two key handset releases saw Samsung's Galaxy S3 rival the iPhone 5 in terms of hype and sales. It shows that perhaps the Apple hype-machine is starting to slow down.
Both launches came with a huge fanfare and impressive specs, but interestingly Apple's newest mobile hasn't gained the approving reception the Cupertino brand is used to.
It's impossible to expect something amazing to appear every year, but Apple also suffered badly from the fiasco surrounding its inaccurate Maps app and the subsequent embarrassing apology. This was definitely the biggest apology of the year ? Apple event went as far as to suggest rival apps for users to download.
Now that Google has released its Maps for the iPhone, reports are suggesting that huge numbers of people are upgrading to iOS 6.
That mess aside, it's been an excellent year for phone software. Windows Phone 8 appeared to join Android Jelly Bean (in two variants) and iOS 6.
As we'll discuss in the computing space shortly, it's been a huge year for Microsoft. Windows Phone 8 is absolutely key to Microsoft's future stategy with phones and it brought a tranche of new features: resizable Live Tiles, NFC support, HD screens and multi-core processors, all designed to helps its devices sit proudly alongside the best on the market. And it's a decent OS ? some may not like the stark design or limited apps store, but it's certainly a worthy addition to the landscape.
The UK finally got itself 4G mobile speeds, courtesy of EE. This means up to five times faster downloads on phones and tablets, although the cost is ridiculous - up to �56 a month for 8GB of data, �36 for 500MB.
The rollout is only in major cities at the moment, and while it's certainly faster, it's only useful where it's available. The spectrum auction for the other networks is taking place over the next couple of the months - expect rollout later in 2013.
Moving onto tablets, this was the year that gave us three iPads, a Surface and two Nexuses plus new Amazon Kindles. We've long been of the opinion that a seven inch tablet is a great size of device as well, so hats off to Google and Amazon for forcing the price down.
Saying 2012 was the year of the tablet is a bit like saying 2012 was an Olympic year ? the buying public sucked up iPads, Kindle Fires and Google Nexus 7 tablets like there was no tomorrow.
The Google Nexus 7 (made by Asus) has had a huge impact, as has the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. So Apple was forced into producing an iPad mini in October which failed to match the Google and Amazon efforts on price.
All three devices offer consumers a great choice: be it stunning design from the iPad mini, simple content access from Amazon's offering or raw, cheap power from the Nexus 7.
Apple forced home its advantage in the 10.1-inch space, replacing Spring's iPad 3 with the iPad 4 late in the year. Other players including Samsung and Asus also played to strengths here and Samsung partnered with Google for the Nexus 10.
And then there was Surface and the cut-down version of Windows 8 that it runs, Windows RT. This is Microsoft's reaction to the iPad, which is essentially Windows 8 on ARM. Surface has been a success in terms of profile but it doesn't seem to be translating it to sales, with everybody acknowledging �399 ($499) is too much for a stripped-back version of Windows 8.
Despite Microsoft reportedly upping production late in the year, it boasts lovely hardware but a poor app ecosystem at the moment. With Windows RT you see, desktop apps aren't supported, just apps from the Windows Store. As time goes on it seems more like Windows RT is a dead duck.
Onto full-blown Windows 8 for Intel and AMD devices then ? this certainly is a seismic shift for Windows as Microsoft. We saw a lot more touch-based hardware than we were expecting to and more exciting Windows hardware continues to appear by the week.
Surface isn't selling in numbers, while Intel is surely rubbing its hands with glee as it continues to push laptops hard on price. The Intel-powered Surface Pro is due in January, but for a high end price ? rather 'cheaper' is where laptops are heading. We've seen laptops like the Asus VivoBook S200 that combine portability, Windows 8 and a touchscreen for �450.
2012 was certainly the year of the Ultrabook ? these Intel-backed thin and light MacBook Air-equivalents made an impact over the last 12 months (even if sales seem a bit of a mystery), as did touchscreen tech thanks to Windows 8.
Google continues to try and launch Chromebooks (why? And why aren't they Android-based?) ? some for as little as �199 ? but, like Windows RT, they disappoint with their restricted approach to computing.
Apple trundles on, its Macs continue to succeed, but its sales remain dwarfed by the still-powerful PC. OS X received an iOS-style makeover with version 10.8 Mountain Lion, but it was mainly window-dressing. Still, the hardware impressed. One of its smartest moves was the Hybrid Drive, an innovation on OS X that makes an SSD and traditional hard drive appear as a single storage drive, with oft-used apps transferred to the SSD.
It also gave us high-resolution retina displays on some MacBook Pro models, something that looks set to give us far better displays across the board.
Apple continued to plead the post-PC message with iOS 6 for iPad and iPhone, but was quite happy to innovate in the Mac space, seemingly missing the point that Macs *are* PCs.
We didn't see a big leap in x86 CPU performance during 2012. We did see Intel launch the 22nm die-drink of its Intel Core processors (codenamed Ivy Bridge). AMD continued struggle and make cheap, decent chips, but it faces serious questions about its future next year despite the performance message of its new Trinity A-Series. AMD has said it will also make ARM chips in future.
Despite the ropey start to ARM-powered PCs, ARM-powered chips will press Intel hard over the coming years. "Is the era of x86 over? Not yet, but maybe soon if the weight of ARM-related processor developments is anything to go by," says our own Jeremy Laird. "One thing's for sure. The desktop CPU war is over."
But 2012 has been more about laying the foundations for a potentially epic 2013. Not epic in the traditional sense of major developments in CPU or graphics technology (though we'll see developments there, too).
But it could well be the year when we see the dissolution of the traditional concept of the PC. In 2012 it wasn't just Apple talking about taking things beyond the PC - even Microsoft is now showing it wants to reinvent PC tech. Every major PC manufacturer turn its attention to tablets; with some remarkably varied results, from convertible laptops to sliders to slates.
But these are challenging times for tech companies, not only in computing, but in home entertainment, too. Many tech brands ? Japanese ones in particular ? are struggling just to keep their heads above the rising tides of financial ruin.
The endless conveyor belt of new products in home entertainment is truly impressive, especially when you consider that we're living in an age of such financial hardship.
The big stories this year revolved around OLED TVs, with Samsung and LG both launching amazing new 55-inch products, and Ultra HD, aka 4K. Ultra HD TVs have four times the number of pixels as regular full HD TVs, making them capable of producing fantastically sharp pictures and also enabling passive 3D tech to operate at a full HD resolution.
Ultra HD as an emerging theme is helped on by the fact that movie studios are now starting to shoot films at 4K resolutions, creating buzz and triggering visible marketing. Of the two televisual themes of 2012, it certainly seems as though OLED is the one that's fast falling out of favour.
Despite the tech producing the best, brightest pictures, yield rates in factories are so low that they're prohibitively expensive to buy and sell. It's been a long time now and no one has figured out the answer, so it could be that OLED goes the way of Canon and Toshiba's SED tech and dies a death.
One possible alternative is Sony's Crystal LED tech which it also launched at CES earlier this year, but that again, while super-impressive, is prohibitively expensive. And so while those two OLED monsters from Samsung and LG, announced in January, are still nowhere to be seen, 84-inch Ultra HD TVs from several brands are going on sale in time for Christmas. All you need to do is save up �25,000 and you'll be able to buy one.
The TV is fast becoming the central hub of entertainment and communication in the home, with Smart TV finally starting to come through as a feature people actually use. The reality is, though, that the high price of the best products continue to keep them out of most of our hands.
Since 2006, Blu-ray has had more marketing money thrown at it than any other home ents tech. But in 2012, Blu-ray seems to have hit its peak in terms of market saturation of devices and also in terms of innovation.
Instead, the interesting story in the world of content delivery has taken place deep in the digital ether. In 2012, Netflix became available outside the USA for the first time and launched a worldwide invasion, starting with the UK. A deal was first struck with Sony to get Netflix available on PS3, and smartphone apps,
Philips set-top boxes and other compatible products followed in their hundreds. Netflix chose the right time to offer its TV and Movie streaming services to a wider audience ? at the same time, Amazon announced that streaming overtook DVD rentals in terms of usage within its Lovefilm service for the first time. Streaming is where it's at. And other services like Rdio and Spotify have come on leaps and bounds, too.
2012 was also an important year for gaming hardware. We've seen new consoles launch shaped like PlayStation Vitas, Nintendo 3DS XLs, super-slim Sony PS3s, Nintendo Wii Us and in Canada Nintendo has also launched a super-cheap Nintendo Wii Mini.
Most of this new gear was received warmly. The PS Vita was not without its flaws but demonstrated its power and mobile gaming class.
The Nintendo 3DS XL was more or less the console that the disappointing 3DS should have been and thus was also embraced by the gaming world.
However, the super-slim PS3, made out of cheaper materials and containing a cheaper drive tray was a bit more disappointing. "It wasn't cheap enough", was the main complaint.
The Wii U also received a mixed reaction when it landed in November. Its hardware was said to be only just on a par with the 6-year old PS3 and 7-year old Xbox 360. Its games are just not as accessible as the original Wii games - an opinion mirrored far and wide. The Wii U's fortunes will surely make great reading moving into 2013.

If you?ve got an iOS device, you probably compose text in a slew of different apps: email in an email client, tweets in a Twitter client, tasks in a to-do-list manager, ideas for articles in a text editor...and on and on. But sometimes I want to write something?or at least the idea for something?before I even know where it?s going, and I want to keep those notes and ideas handy for when I?m ready to do something with them. (Other times I start writing in one app and later decide to finish in another.)
It?s easy enough to cut and paste text between apps, but these days, much of my iOS-composed text starts out in the aptly named Drafts, a stellar app from Agile Tortoise. Available for both the iPad ($4) and the iPhone ($3), Drafts is a catch-all bucket for typing messages, jotting down ideas, storing templates, and?just as useful?doing things with that text when it?s ready.
Launch Drafts, and you can start typing right away?there?s no need to create a new document, think of a title, or leap any other hurdles to getting your thoughts out of your head and into the app. The iPhone version of Drafts offers a clean document view with just a few buttons and the onscreen keyboard; the iPad version adds an additional row of keys above the onscreen keyboard that are useful for formatting links and typing frequently used symbols (including common Markdown and MultiMarkdown notation characters). Unlike the special keys found in many other iOS text editors, Drafts's remain on the screen when you use an external Bluetooth keyboard.
To start a new draft while in the app, tap the the plus-sign (+) button; whatever draft you were previously working on is automatically saved. Tap the documents button (an icon of a piece of paper) to view a list of all your saved drafts. The first few words of each draft are displayed in the list to make it easier to find a particular one; you can also use the search feature by tapping the magnifying-glass button and typing a search query.

An iPhone case which transforms into to a video game controller has hit the popular crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter this weekend.
The concept case is only 3mm thin, but contains the traditional directional pad and button configurations seen on many classic handheld games consoles.
To the naked eye, it looks like a regular iPhone case, but snapping it from the centre reveals the controls and alters the shape of the case to make it easier to grip for gamers.
The case connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth 4.0 and is charged by Solar power and indoor light sources.
The creator Justice Frangipane has been working on the controller for over a year and has now teamed up with the iDevices company to help make the project a reality.
Most importantly, Frangipane says the project also has Apple's support.
He said: "iDevices contacted Apple on my behalf and we are happy to announce that Apple is not only going to support us, but willing to devote a team to making sure that this controller works perfectly with Apple iOS devices!"
The project requires a $135,000 (UK�83,490, AUD$129,772) bounty to officially go ahead and you can see the latest prototype in the video below.

As promised, the ZTE Nubia Z5 was unveiled in China on Wednesday, and the big new Android smartphone looks like a winner right off the bat.
Its previously rumored specs were not exaggerated, as the Nubia Z5 does indeed come in a 5-inch form with a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor, full 1080p display, 2GB of memory, and 13MP/2MP cameras on the back and front, respectively.
Wednesday's announcement also revealed that ZTE's Nubia Z5 will come packing 32GB of storage, Wi-Fi display and MHL output for displaying content on larger screens, and either Yamaha or Dolby Digital Plus sound output.
Best of all, though, is the Nubia Z5's incredibly thin chassis - at just 7.6mm thick and weighing 126g, it's the slimmest 5-inch smartphone on the market.
Like we ourselves did at Christmas dinner on Tuesday, the ZTE Nubia Z5 packs a lot in, despite its extremely thin 7.6mm frame.
That includes a 2,300mAh batter in addition to everything mentioned above.
The Nubia Z5 manages to compare favorably in size with Samsung's Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S3, while still sporting a gorgeous screen and powerful innards.
It was even designed by Italian designer Stefano Giovannoni.
As Engadget pointed out on Wednesday, Nubia is a new division of Chinese company ZTE, so thus far it's impossible to guess when the Z5 will be made available internationally.
In China, its cost ranges from ¥3,456 (US$554, UK�343, AU$535) to ¥7,890 (US$1,265, UK�785, AU$1,222) for the "titanium edition."
When it does become available internationally, Engadget reported, it will be LTE-compatible (no surprise there).
TechRadar will be on hand at CES 2013 to check out the ZTE Nubia Z5 if it does indeed make an appearance, so keep your eyes peeled as we head into the new year.

Toshiba is working on a new camera sensor module, which will allow smartphone and tablet users the opportunity to change the focus of photos and videos after they're shot.
Reports from Japan on Thursday revealed the tiny module, which measures up at about 1mm on each side and houses a 5mm x 7mm sensor with 500,000 0.03mm lenses layered on top.
Each of these lenses captures a slightly different image and, using Toshiba's homegrown software, will allow users to alter the focus of the image if the background proves more interesting than the foreground.
The sensor has the ability to accurately measure the distance between the objects (a la 3D cameras) and can focus on near and far elements of the image by combining the best results from the different lenses.
If a user so desires, they could use the tech to create an image that is perfectly focused and blur-free throughout the frame.
Toshiba also says the technology is capable of working with videos shot on a smartphone or camera.
The new technology is similar to the Lytro Light Field camera, introduced last year.
However, whereas the Lytro was housed in a four-inch box, the Toshiba module is small enough to fit into a smartphone or tablet.
The tech is still a work in progress, but according to Japanese site Asahi Shimbun, Toshbia plans to commercialise it in 2013 and is currently pitching it to smartphone and tablet manufacturers.

GLBenchmark has struck again, listing the specs for another device that has yet to be officially announced: Acer's V350 smartphone.
The Acer V350 appeared in GLBenchmark's listings recently, though exactly when is unclear.
However, reports of the unannounced Acer smartphone began arriving on Friday.
Given its specs, it seems the V350 will be Acer's flagship device for 2013.
The benchmark profile pegs the Acer V350 with a 1280 x 720 display that's likely more than 4 inches in size.
Pair that with Qualcomm's 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor - the same one that powers Samsung's Galaxy S3 - and you've got an impressive device.
The Acer V350's specs also include Android 4.1.2: Jelly Bean right out of the box, a first for the Taiwanese manufacturer.
Acer's ship has sprung leaks left and right in the last week, with the Acer V360 and Iconia B1 tablet inadvertently revealed in addition to the V350.
Despite the names, the Acer V350's hardware appears to be superior to the V360's 4.5-inch 950 x 540 resolution display and 1GHz dual-core chip.
What's more, the V360 will run on Jelly Bean jus as the V350 does.
The Iconia B1, on the other hand, is a budget-priced 7-inch Android Jelly Bean tablet expected to launch at CES 2013 or the Mobile World Congress next year.
The V350 and V360 could make appearances at CES as well, so stay tuned - TechRadar will be there live to bring you all the big announcements.

If you work with video, chances are you occasionally need to convert video files from one format to another. For instance, if you?ve downloaded videos from YouTube or other online video services, that content may be in Flash or Windows Media formats, which aren?t viewable on any iOS device. Or if you update web content, you may have a number of movies in H.264 format that simply won?t play in Google?s Chrome browser, which doesn?t support H.264.
There are many tools available for converting video between formats, but the one I often turn to is the free Miro Video Converter (
When you launch Miro Video Converter, you?re greeted with a large, dark, and basically empty interface. However, it?s pretty obvious what needs to be done, thanks to explanatory text that states, ?Drag videos here or Choose Files.? To convert one or more video files, drag them into the window, or click the Choose Files link to use a standard OS X file-navigation dialog box to select them.
Once you?re added at least one video, the buttons at the bottom of the interface become active. Choose your output format by clicking one of these buttons (Apple, Android, Other, or Format) and choosing from the options in the resulting pop-up menu. Miro Video Converter automatically selects the resulting video?s size, quality, and codec settings based on the chosen platform or device.

One of the big changes in iTunes 11 is the new MiniPlayer. The iTunes MiniPlayer has been around for years, but its functionality has been enhanced with iTunes 11. In addition to being a control center for playing your music, you can also use it to search for songs, playlists, and more, and to access the Up Next queue. Here?s how you can get the most out of the iTunes MiniPlayer.
First, if you want to use the MiniPlayer, you need to display it. In iTunes, choose Window > MiniPlayer, or press Command-Option-3, to display this window. This will bring up a MiniPlayer in addition to the main iTunes interface. If you want to just use the MiniPlayer, click the rectangular button at the upper right of the main iTunes window (just to the left of the control to enter full screen), select Window > Switch to MiniPlayer, or press Command-Option-M.
If you want to use the MiniPlayer a lot, you can close the iTunes window (Command-W), and set a preference that makes the MiniPlayer float above all your other windows. Choose iTunes > Preferences > Advanced, then check 'Keep MiniPlayer window on top of all other windows.' (Note that if you want to use the MiniPlayer with iTunes in full-screen mode, or if you use multiple spaces, this hint will tell you how to get it to work so it displays above other windows and in all spaces.)
So what can you do with the MiniPlayer? Of course it can tell you what?s playing, but it does much more; you can access a number of controls if you hover your cursor over the MiniPlayer window.
