Born in Stettin Prussia in 1729, Sophia would become Russia's premier female ruler and arbiter of an enlightened monarchy. Crowned Empress Catherine II of Russia, she would eventually add the suffix of Great to her name by her death in 1796 and it would fall to her grandson to press back against Enlightened France during the Napoleonic Wars.
