Samsung has told TechRadar it's aiming to launch new products much closer to their announcement, which could mean the Galaxy S3 will be on shelves before June rolls around.
In an exclusive interview with TechRadar, Simon Stanford, Samsung's VP of telecommunications and networks for UK and Ireland said in March that timing launches around industry events isn't always the most efficient strategy:
"Traditionally the industry works in cycles around an event, meaning there's usually quite a period of time between announcement and period of launch.
"Commercially, you have to question that; plus it presents a challenge by putting you in a position where everyone knows what you're up to."
However, Stanford stopped short of naming the Galaxy S3 outright, stating: "In terms of any successor to the S2, that will be hosted at separate event in due course.
"Whatever it is, and whatever it's going to be. As it stands, nothing exists. This is all should any successor be announced."
But it seems Samsung's stance has shifted to maximise exposure and 'online buzz' around its products - and also in terms of staying safe in the increasingly potent patent landscape between manufacturers, which goes some way to explaining its lack of press conference at MWC 2012:
"The industry is now highly competitive and fiercer than I've ever seen it in the 15 years I've been working in it. Just look at entrants into the Android space this year alone," said Stanford.
"Protecting IP and assets is becoming vastly important to everyone; now the development is such that whatever the product is it has to be protected at all costs.
"I don't read any more into it than that, it's just about making sure we protect whatever needs protecting until such a time that that product, whatever it may be, is about."
There have been some rumours that the next Galaxy would launch with the S-Pen compatibility as the Galaxy Note, but it seems this may be wide of the mark.
While Stanford talked up the positives of bringing the stylus back into the mobile fold, he pointed out that its use was still being evaluated for future products based on consumer reception, which may mean it's too soon to see it on the Galaxy S3:
"The difference with our S-Pen is it has its own apps; it's a pen with brain. The original stylus was inanimate: you just hit the resistive screen and away you went. This has its own apps to work with and developers are creating apps around this magic pen," he added.
"At the moment, I would say 'why not [add it into future products]?', as there is a need so we are fulfilling it; we'll see what the campaign [for the Samsung Galaxy Note] shows up and we'll see what the results are from that. It shows we're just going to keep innovating."
TechRadar will be bringing you the full interview soon ? stay tuned to hear more on the deployment of 4G networks in the UK, how Samsung thinks the tablet market will evolve and more.

Panther, Dolphin, Canary, Monkey, Camel and Racoon. You'd be forgiven for thinking we'd been on Safari, alas we're not THAT lucky.
As we squirrel away (see what we did there?) our hard earned dosh, we like to know that we get the best from our network. This tends to vary from person to person: cue Orange's slightly incomprehensible animal plans.
On a pay monthly contract, text-hungry users are presented with the Canary Plan, talkers could have the call based Racoon Plan, and then there's the Dolphin Plan, which adds in some data too.
However, should you want, as Orange suggest, "everything", it has created the Panther Plan. True to its word, included are minutes, texts, tether-able data, Wifi and what they call "swapables".
Simply put, these are extras that can be changed monthly depending on your preference. You can choose from Mobile TV options, Deezer music streaming, Game or Book downloads, Puzzles and more.
If that's not enough, available for every plan, for a fiver a month, are a range of optional extras including 500MB of data, Photo Messaging, Sat Nav, Gaming and Sky Sports Mobile TV.
Pay as you go users are similarly treated to a range of plans, each providing differing bonuses per top up, as well as a Phone Fund to contribute to your next mobile purchase, and the ability to top up from as little as 10p.
Oh and before we forget, there's Orange Wednesdays and Film Thursdays, available to all their customers. The premier being 2 for 1 tickets to the cinema, the latter, a free film download from iTunes.
So those are the plans, but what are the phones?
Its unsurprising to see the 4S here really, given that Apple's device has taken the market by storm. Backed with an impressive App Store, the 4S brings greater functionality and faster speeds than previous iterations. This is all shown off beautifully on Apple's stunning, pin-sharp Retina display and its quick, smooth processor.

They say big is beautiful, but as the adage goes, it's not about size, it's about what you do with it. Powered by a skinned Android Gingerbread (2.3) and an update to Ice Cream Sandwich incoming, the Xperia Ray can do a lot. Whether web browsing or multitasking, the 1GHz processor powers through nicely, and the clear sharp display shows off photos taken on the 8MP camera well.

Also positioning itself towards the top is, forgive us, the sensation-al XE. The first thing we have to mention is the sound. It might not be to everyone's taste, but the Beats Audio technology, that HTC has moved to acquire, adds an extra level to a quality phone. It also comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and Sense 3.6 to keep it up to date.

The HTC One X has bounded onto the scene, and with its HD screen, NFC capabilities and quad-core processor it really is one of the top phones of the moment.
It's running the latest version of Android in the shape of Ice Cream Sandwich, plus one of the best cameras on the market - capable of shooting 99 photos in a row and taking snaps while recording in 1080p HD. In short, one of the best phones around right now.

It's not very often that a network branded phone can make its way into a best phone list, but Orange have a low cost handset with a fair amount of technology. If you can accept some compromises, you're rewarded with a large responsive screen on top of a surprisingly smooth 800MHz processor. Bundled is also a MediaShare app which makes content streaming nice for beginners too.

Mentioned once or twice before, the S2 has to make any list. Although fast approaching its first birthday, and being surrounded by some high end competition, we still love it. Vivid colours make media a dream, and multitasking has to be seen to be believed thanks to its lightning processor. It even looks amazing in its super slim chassis.

The Motorola Razr Maxx will be heading to the UK come mid-May, sporting a battery which claims to offer over 17 hours of talk time.
There isn't too much difference between the Razr Maxx and its predecessor the Motorola Razr, with the same 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, 8MP rear camera and Android Gingerbread all present and correct.
As you've probably guessed, it's the battery which has undergone the biggest transformation, with Motorola boosting the juice pack from 1780mAh in the Razr to a huge 3300mAh in the Razr Maxx.
Motorola claims that this huge battery will provide 17.6 hours of talk time and 607 hours of standby life. That's up from the 10 hours talk time quoted for the original Razr, but remember these estimates are always best-case scenarios.
However, you can't just stick a bigger battery into a phone and still keep the same size and weight. The Razr Maxx has gained 18g on its brother, tipping the scales at 147g.
It has also lost the super-slim 7.1mm body, with Motorola having to expand the Razr Maxx to, a still slender, 8.89mm. The good news is that even though the Razr Maxx ships will Android Gingerbread, an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will be available in the future.
The Motorola Razr Maxx has been available in the US since January (known as the Droid Razr Maxx), but we've had to wait for it over here in Britain.
You can pre-order the Razr Maxx today from Clove and Expansys, but the handset will set you back around 430.

If you wanted to take a test drive, we'd recommend getting down to your local showroom. If you wanted free bees, similarly we'd say get down to your local honey farm. Or you could go speak to Vodafone.
We've not lost the plot, we promise. Test Drive is Vodafone's way of optimising your monthly plan to suit you. This comprises of 3 months unlimited data use, with the goal being to guide you towards the most suitable plan thereafter.
FreeBees are, guess what, not what they appear. It's a play on words. Who'da thought? The idea being that PAYG customers gain rewards with every top up.
Top ups come with a 30 day reward, from international calling to texting, internet and calling packages. The size of the reward is linked to the value of the top up.
On top of this comes more "rewardz", in the form of "instant rewardz" or "pointz". In a bit of a Ronseal moment, these do exactly what they say on the metaphorical tin.
Every top up comes with a texted code, which you can cash in for DVD rentals, sweets or flowers, or points that can be collected to turn into something bigger from iPods to Bowling.
For all customers, Vodafone VIP and Vodafone Sure Signal are available too. VIP brings along presale tickets to a variety of events from Fashion Shows to F1 and Festivals. Sure Signal on the other hand, brings a guaranteed 3G signal to your home via your internet connection.
To make the most of all this, you'll probably want a top notch phone, so what do they offer?
We don't mean to keep mentioning the S2, but that's nigh on impossible really. We've said it before and we'll say it again, but packing such a superb, crisp display, high end 8MP camera with a nippy 1.2GHz dual core processor into a body less than 8.5mm, keeps the S2 at the top almost a year after release.

In a mutually beneficial relationship, one providing the software, the other the hardware, Nokia and Microsoft have come together to provide the Lumia 800. Taking Nokia back up the smart phone ladder with its Carl Zeiss 8MP camera, funky colours and Windows Phone 7.5, the Lumia 800 is a phone many would be proud to own.

Smart phones are made or broken depending on the number and quality of its apps, something Apple has in abundance through its strictly controlled iTunes store. That said, they need to be displayed properly, which is where the excellent Retina display comes in. Apple also use their own dual core processing chip to make sure it all runs smooth.

Touch screen phones aren't for everyone, so continuing in true keyboarded BlackBerry style is the Bold 9900, (though it is touch screen too). Unlike some previous devices, the screen is responsive and shows off BB OS7 well. Behind all that comes NFC technology and a fast processor so it will still be going strong at the end of your contract.

It might not come with the Google branding, but in every other respect the Galaxy Nexus is a true Google phone. Running pure Android has its advantages, not least future software updates. In the present however, we have the superb Ice Cream Sandwich running on a super sharp screen, with NFC, a cracking 5MP camera and a fast dual core processor to keep things running smoothly.

UK chip giant ARM has once again put in an impressive quarter, with CEO Warren East suggesting that it will be pumping cash into future innovation.
A 22 per cent hike in year on year profit, ahead of tax, and 14 per cent rise in revenue underlines the Cambridge-based company's huge strength in not only mobile devices, but also in the burgeoning embedded processor markets.
That means the processors that are making their way into everyday electronic items ? the so-called 'internet of things'.
"As many aspects of our lives become digital, we continue to see an increase in the demand for ARM's smarter and lower power technology, which is driving both our licensing and royalty revenues," said East.
"In the first quarter of 2012 we saw continuing demand for technology licenses driven by a remarkable variety of end markets from highly efficient servers to energy-sipping sensors.
"ARM's royalty revenues continued to outperform the overall semiconductor industry as our customers launch their products into new markets and gain market share within existing markets."
East is keen to point to the potential for ARM, a company that has reaped the benefit of designing processors that have low power consumption ? something that is increasingly vital in an era where our computing is portable.
"With more customers choosing to deploy ARM technology in their products, this has been another quarter that underpins the long-term growth opportunity of the business," he added
"This growth enables us to invest in future innovative technology as well as delivering increases in profit and cash flow."
The volume of ARM-designed chips shipped in the quarter, although an impressive 1.1 billion, is relatively flat year on year, but the rise in chips for other consumer and embedded digital devices has increased 15 per cent.

Qualcomm, the company that builds the Snapdragon processors present within a vast array of smartphones, has warned it is struggling to keep up with demand for the chips.
The American giant and world's leading mobile chip manufacturer, says it underestimated demand and now its third-party factories can't create enough to last until the end of 2012.
The Smartdragon S4 chip in question provides the power for many Android and Windows Phone manufacturers, so supplies might be hit as the year draws towards a close.
Qualcomm says it is nudging clients towards the more plentiful Fusion 2 chipset supplies, but admits some smartphone manufacturers will look to rival chip-makers.
"In any constrained environment, people look for any alternative they can in order to solve the problem," Qualcomm chief operating officer, Steve Mollenkopf says.
"We've been helping customers to see how they can swap in our Fusion 2 chipset, which is the chipset that we have been ramping over the last 8 months in production.
And we do expect to see some alternative non-Qualcomm chipsets being used to solve that issue as well."

Samsung teased us with its 'The Next Galaxy' countdown site and its now added more suspense to the Galaxy S3 launch event on May 3 with a video tease.
The video offers little information, but points strongly towards the launch of a mobile phone, we assume the Samsung Galaxy S3, with inspirational phrases littered throughout.
Samsung reckons it's on to something pretty special, teasing: "Truly smart technology becomes a natural part of life, where a galaxy fits perfectly into your hand, our view of the world gets ever wider, as you gain the power to explore it freely and swiftly".
In typical Samsung style, there is humour thrown in as the video says: "with technology that fits in this easily, you can now stand out from... everyone else" - cue image of a field full of sheep. (48 seconds in, if you're interested)
We will have to wait until May 3 when Samsung will take to the stage at Earls Court, London to unveil the Galaxy S3. In the meantime take a look at out Samsung Galaxy S3 release date, news and rumours article for all the latest details.
