Motorola Razr Maxx heading to the UK in May

The Motorola Razr Maxx will be heading to the UK come mid-May, sporting a battery which claims to offer over 17 hours of talk time.

There isn't too much difference between the Razr Maxx and its predecessor the Motorola Razr, with the same 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, 8MP rear camera and Android Gingerbread all present and correct.

As you've probably guessed, it's the battery which has undergone the biggest transformation, with Motorola boosting the juice pack from 1780mAh in the Razr to a huge 3300mAh in the Razr Maxx.

A smartphone with a decent battery, a rare occurrence

Motorola claims that this huge battery will provide 17.6 hours of talk time and 607 hours of standby life. That's up from the 10 hours talk time quoted for the original Razr, but remember these estimates are always best-case scenarios.

However, you can't just stick a bigger battery into a phone and still keep the same size and weight. The Razr Maxx has gained 18g on its brother, tipping the scales at 147g.

It has also lost the super-slim 7.1mm body, with Motorola having to expand the Razr Maxx to, a still slender, 8.89mm. The good news is that even though the Razr Maxx ships will Android Gingerbread, an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will be available in the future.

The Motorola Razr Maxx has been available in the US since January (known as the Droid Razr Maxx), but we've had to wait for it over here in Britain.

You can pre-order the Razr Maxx today from Clove and Expansys, but the handset will set you back around 430.
