For those of you who are a bit slow on the uptake, the new handset is a reboot of the Nokia Lumia 610 we saw launched at MWC 2012, which was touted as the most affordable Windows Phone mobile yet.

There will be a range of NFC accessories to go with the launch of the Lumia 610 and the handset will also be able to interact with NFC tags, a la Sony's NFC SmartTags and LG's Tag+ systems.

More NFC phones to come

The Nokia Lumia 610 NFC is just the start though, as Nokia's head of product marketing Ilari Nurmi revealed: "We're bringing NFC right across our portfolio, and together with our ever-growing range of NFC accessories we're making it easy for people to connect via a single tap."

So brace yourself for an onslaught of Nokia Lumia devices packing NFC making an appearance this year, as the mobile world moves towards contactless technology.

Nokia has confirmed that the Lumia 610 NFC UK release date will be early in the third quarter of 2012, so expect it to land in stores around July.

In the UK, the Nokia Lumia 610 NFC will initially only be available with Orange.
