No Nokia 808 Pureview for US

No Nokia 808 Pureview for US

Nokia's astonishing 41-megapixel cameraphone, the Nokia 808 PureView, will not go on sale in the United States, it has been been confirmed.

The news is in keeping with the Finnish company's vow to stop selling Symbian phones in North America in order to concentrate on its promising Windows Phone offerings.

The 808 PureView stole the show at last week's Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona prompting hopes that it may reach the US as an unlocked device, free from carrier affiliation.

However, mobile blog PhoneArena has been studying Nokia's specs page and spotted that global availability "excludes North America".

Windows PureView phones coming

That means those smartphone fans eager to shoot with the dramatically improved image quality at their disposal will need to wait until the launch of Nokia's PureView-equipped Windows Phone devices.

Senior VP Jo Harlow said: "I can't say precisely when, but it will not take very long," with regards to the tech arriving on the company's Microsoft phones.

Meanwhile, in more bad news for Nokia fans stateside, it seems that Verizon will be waiting for Windows Phone 8, codenamed Apollo, before launching and Lumia devices.

The Verge reports that the network canned the launch of a Nokia Windows Phone device in January due to concerns over the lack of support for 4G LTE technology on Microsoft's OS.

For the majority of 2012, it seems that only AT&T and T-Mobile customers will be able to get their paws on Nokia's range of Windows Phone devices.
